Perfect Slapdown of the Idiotic Harry Reid

This sums up the idiotic and borderline treasonous behavior of Harry Reid (D-Defeat) better than anything I've ever seen. It's worth reading the whole thing (language warning for the comments though), but here's a sample: (And IMAO--In My Arrogant Opinion--has to be just about the best-named blog on the Internet. I'm jealous!)

WASHINGTON (AP) - Top US congressional Democrats bluntly told President George W. Bush Wednesday that American farmers' spring planting "surge" policy was a failure.

Senate Majority leader Harry Reid and House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi challenged the president over this year's corn crop by sending him a letter, ahead of a White House meeting later on Wednesday.

"As many had forseen [sic], the springtime planting of seed corn has failed to produce the intended results," the two leaders wrote.

"The increase in seeds in the ground has yet to produce a single edible ear of corn so far this year.

"This corn is a dismal failure. It's time to pull it out."

"Far from fulfilling its promise of putting steaming, buttery ears on every table, this crazy planting scheme has done nothing so far but cost this country's farmers most of last year's profits, as well as causing them to spend all their time coddling these high-maintenance vegetables.

"Clearing the land, plowing, weeding, fertilizing, irrigating, spreading pesticides and herbicides - not to mention the over 1000 farmers that have lost their lives in unnecessary tractor deaths so far this year - when will the madness end?

"And what do we have to show for it? It's already mid-June and not a single plant has borne fruit. In fact, if these trends continue, it's safe to predict a nation-wide corn famine that will bring this country to its knees."

Harry Reid Is Ignorant...or a Treasonous Liar...or Both

Check out this news story:

Top US congressional Democrats bluntly told President George W. Bush Wednesday that his Iraq troop "surge" policy was a failure.

Senate Majority leader Harry Reid and House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi challenged the president over Iraq by sending him a letter, ahead of a White House meeting later on Wednesday.

"As many had forseen, the escalation has failed to produce the intended results," the two leaders wrote.

"The increase in US forces has had little impact in curbing the violence or fostering political reconciliation."

According to General David Petraus (the man unanimously confirmed by the Senate to lead our military in Iraq) the troop surge will not even be complete for at least one more week.

Harry Reid is like the Red Queen in Alice in Wonderland--first the verdict, then the trial. He never has had any intention of allowing the US to succeed in Iraq, and he will do everything in his power to see that we don't. If Bush had the courage of Lincoln, Reid would share the fate of Clement Vallandigham. That's what he deserves.

Mr. Bush, Build Up That Wall!

Twenty years ago next week, Ronald Reagan stood in Berlin and delivered perhaps the most famous speech of his career, highlighted by the phrase, "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" Here is the speech I wish he were here to give to our current president.

And now the American people are coming to understand the importance of securing our nation. We hear much from Mexico opposing our taking control of our borders. Some violent felons have been allowed to roam free in our country. The government of Mexico encourages their citizens to break our laws for the sake of their own financial gain. Elements of the Mexican military and police have violated our sovereignty.

Are these the beginnings of a renewed terror threat against our nation? Are these only token threats, or do we ignore them at our grave peril? We have welcomed immigrants to our shores since before our founding...but only those who agreed to follow our system of laws because they wanted to be a part of our great experiment in freedom. There is one sign the US government could make that would be unmistakable, that would advance dramatically our domestic tranquility and peace.

President Bush, if you seek safety, if you desire continued freedom for the United States of America, if you seek to truly secure our nation, Come here to this border! Mr. Bush, close these gaps! Mr. Bush, build up that wall!

Down Goes Frazier

Well, at least for the moment, the republic is safe from the Bush-Kennedy "reform" abomination. I seriously doubt that even a stake in the heart is enough to kill this monster, but it's a good first step. There is a group on both sides of the aisle that's opposed...and hopefully they'll stick together even if they are strange bedfellows and keep from granted amnesty to 12 or 20 or how ever many million illegals there are in the country today. (And you can count on the fact that, until we get serious about enforcing the border, the number will be larger tomorrow.)

Mr. President, build up that wall.

Whither the Immigration "Reform"?

The Senate immigration "reform" bill is struggling for life on the floor today following a poison pill inserted, not by the conservatives who have been so vocal against it, but by ultra-liberal Byron Dorgan of ND, last night to end the temporary worker program after 5 years. Two votes for cloture today have failed, and if a third goes down to defeat later this afternoon, the future of the bill is clouded to say the least.

I hope it fails, but I suspect that the unholy trinity of a cabal of Republicans selling out their conservative base joined by a cabal of Democrats selling out their union base joined by a President intent on destroying what remains of his political party will still find a way to pass this "reform" into law. We'll see...

Remembering D-Day

June 4, 1944 was the day the Allied forces invaded Normandy and began the liberation of Europe. As Wellington said of the Battle of Waterloo, "It was a close-run thing." As is common for military actions, few of the original plans went as drawn up...but the resourcefulness, courage and sacrifice of our troops carried the day.

To put the time since that day into persepctive, there are millions of people who retired at age 62 who are collecting Social Security today. They were not yet born when Gold, Sword, Juno, Omaha and Utah beaches were stormed and taken.

God bless America's men and women fighting around the world today (there is a war on, have you noticed?) and give them success and keep them safe. For our freedom is a direct result of their efforts. And if the long gray line ever breaks...
